Conan Doyle, I'm sure, was inspired from these Dupin-tales that he created, on almost similar lines, Dr. I can guess now why Sherlock Holmes despised Dupin. Explanations given by Dupin at the end of the story are epic and quenches all the thirst inside you. "Perhaps it is the very simplicity of the thing which puts you at fault." At its core, the story is about a letter that's gone missing, possibly stolen, having changed hands a number of times. Unlike the Rue Morgue, this mystery contains no gore or horror it's pure mystery without the overall Gothic depths Poe usually goes to in his literary works. One of the most interesting facts about this story is that it involves Poe's detective Dupin, who also appears in The Murders in the Rue Morgue.
